10 Great Movies Any Young Adult Can Relate to in Life ...

Movies that are typically set in high school are ones that many young adults can relate to, mainly because of all the similarities such as building friendships, starting first relationships and even falling in love that they face in real life.

Have you seen any of these movies and if so, which is your favourite?

1 Mean Girls

Cady is a teenage girl who's been home schooled all her life, so when she moves from her home town and into a big public school full of preppy, popular students, she finds it hard to resist becoming a part of the most popular clique in school ("The Plastics") when invited by the leader.

Cady gets out of her depth as she finds herself hurting others around her (including the first real friends she's ever had) just so she can make a name for herself as one of the popular girls. She must ultimately find a way to make amends with all those she has done wrong to and also must find out who her true friends are.

2 13 Going on 30

Jenna is sick of not being popular in high school and makes a wish to become 30, believing that being older would solve all her problems.

Suddenly her wish comes true overnight and she wakes up in a much older life, although she finds out that it's not as great she thought and doesn't like the person she becomes in the future. Therefore she must try to change the future of her life before it's too late.

3 Easy a

Olive wants a better reputation so she tells a lie to her best friend, which then spreads round her school like wildfire and soon everyone knows her false story and believes it's true.

At first Olive doesn't mind being known for her promiscuity(even if it's all lies) and plays along with the rumours going around. But it's not long before it all spirals out of control when others take advantage of her new ways and she must shut the rumours and stories down once and for all, even if that means coming clean about the truth.

4 Cruel Intentions

Sebastian and Kathryn are two extremely wealthy but bored teenagers who decide to make a bet for fun. Sebastian is to prove that he can seduce Annette, a goody-two-shoes who's the very definition of ingenuous, and can make her fall in love with him.

However Sebastian finds himself in a sticky situation as he starts to develop true feelings for Annette and struggles with the guilt of his insincere intentions towards her. He wants to come clean but doesn't want to lose her, so Kathryn plots behind his back to ruin his relationship out of spite and jealously.

5 10 Things I Hate about You

Kat and Bianca are two sisters who live with a strict dad who only allows them to date if Kat decides to - since she's the oldest. But there's one problem: Kat repels boys with her sarcasm and bad attitude.

Cameron is smitten with Bianca and helps her finds a boyfriend for her sister so that they are allowed to date. They choose Patrick for the job, the toughest guy in school, and although he agrees he ends up falling love with Kat.

6 American Beauty

Lester is an employed suburban husband and father. Fed up with his mundane life, he decides to make a change and become the person he's always wanted to be. But one thing he didn't see coming was becoming infatuated with Jane's (his teenage daughter) popular and pretty best friend Angela.

Next door, Ricky is a teenager who has always known he's different from others and decided he's okay with that. That being said, he can see that Jane is different too but she's fighting her attraction to Ricky because she's not ready to admit that she's different to her seemingly perfect best friend.

7 The Bling Ring

Marc and his popular high school clique are obsessed with celebrities and the glamourous lives they lead. They use the media to track down their addresses and plan to rob their houses, hoping to become just as glamourous and wealthy.

Soon they get carried away with their elaborate plans and schemes to steal more each time and land themselves in big trouble with the law, left with no choice but to accept the consequences for their illegal behaviour. This movie is also based on a true story.

8 Clueless

Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school's pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai a makeover.

When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother was right about how misguided she was - and falls for him.

9 Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

Based on the books by Louise Rennison, this tale follows 14-year-old Georgia Nicholson as she attempts to woo Robbie, one half of a pair of fraternal twins.

Prone to getting herself into embarrassing situations and worried about her parent's marriage, Georgia discovers that being a teen can be a pain in the neck.

10 The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

Bridget, Carmen, Lena and Tibby are best friends living in Maryland. After many summers together, the four are finally going their separate ways for a few months: while Bridget heads to Mexico, and Lena visits family in Greece, Carmen and Tibby stay closer to home.

No matter where they are, they are connected by a pair of jeans that they take turns sharing -- pants that fit all four girls and exemplify their tight bond.
