7 Best Movie Prequels of All Time That You're Gonna Love ...

By Corina

I know that sometimes when people hear about a prequel made for a fantastically great movie, they tend to be a bit skeptical, because of the stereotype that makes people believe that all prequels are terrible; but as every stereotype, this one isn’t true either. In this little article, I will present you some of the best movie prequels ever made. I know that prequels and sequels have a bad reputation and that you might tend to believe that they only make these movies because they ran out of ideas and they’re trying to take advantage of the huge success of the original movies. But, that’s not always the case. Some of the prequels are really good and they can even help you answer a few questions you had in mind ever since you first watched the original movie. Here are a couple of the best movie prequels of all time that I’m sure you’re gonna love.

1 The Hobbit (2012)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/hobbit-unexpected-journey/id598661920

I could definitely say that The Hobbit is one of the best movie prequels I’ve ever seen, even though until now, they only released the first part, An Unexpected Journey; the second one, The Desolation of Smaug, is to be released in December this year, around Christmas... and probably the third part of this amazing prequel will be in theaters around December next year. I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy, both the movies and the books, and as every Tolkien fan, I sure do love this amazing story too. Actually I love the fantastic world and the amazing characters Tolkien had created, and Peter Jackson really succeeded to capture all the details and show us exactly what the author had intended. I can’t wait for the next part to be released! And even though I’ve read the book and I know how it ends, I can’t wait to see the movie cause I’m sure it will rise to my expectations and possibly even exceed them.

2 Star Trek (2009)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/star-trek/id317909453

I know that maybe not all of you are sci-fi fans, and I don’t consider myself a big Star Trek fan either, but this prequel is definitely worth watching. The plot is great, the characters are well-defined and the entire movie atmosphere really captures your full attention. J.J. Abrams is a great director, this being acknowledged by the fact that he really manages to tell the story of Enterprise and its crew with a boldness that brings the entire franchise back to life at warp speed... and this year they will release the second movie in this format, Star Trek Into Darkness. In a few words, they managed to make Star Trek cool again.

3 Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/oz-the-great-and-powerful/id631853406

Oh how I loved The Wizard of Oz - it’s one of my favorite all time films! This movie was my childhood favorite fantasy and I am really glad that the prequel didn’t let me down and it even exceeded my expectations. It’s such a wonderful movie to watch with your entire family! The director, Sam Raimi, really managed to capture the magic and charm of the original Land of Oz and the only thing that I missed a lot in this movie was the songs; I would have loved to hear a few of those great jolly tunes. But, even without them, this prequel still remains a spectacular adventure and a beautiful reinterpretation of the classic tale, filled with amazing special effects.

4 X-Men First Class (2011)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/x-men-first-class/id446076340

This great prequel reveals the epic beginning of the X-men Saga and I think it manages to please both the X-Men fans and non-fans of this series. You shouldn’t miss this movie because it’s so, so entertaining; it’s filled with great special effects and it also has an original tale. It’s a real treat for the eyes! I believe that this movie really succeeds to revitalize the entire X-Men franchise. It’s definitely a great movie to watch... it’s very entertaining and the story is one of a kind!

5 Puss in Boots (2011)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/puss-in-boots/id482855804

This extremely entertaining animation is a great prequel of the Shrek movies (movies that are also among my favorites, all 4 of them) that I really enjoyed watching with my entire family. Antonio Banderas is truly hilarious and very inventive and is simply fantastic in this role! This great movie delivers the perfect mixture of fun, adventure, all of that being spiced up with a bit of emotion. Also, the characters are absolutely adorable and extremely funny. It’s such a fun movie to watch, especially for the child within! Be sure not to miss it!

6 Monsters University (2013)

Trailers on iTunes at: trailers.apple.com

I know, I know…this hasn’t been launched yet but it will be this month and if you’ve watched Monsters Inc. I’m sure you would know that this prequel will be a great hit too. It has such an amazing trailer! I can’t wait for it to be released! As far as I know, it’s a college movie and it captures the experience of the characters’ self-discovery. The producers say that the story has a bunch of unexpected twists and turns, that it’s really surprising and that is really hard to predict. They also state that they’re going for laughs but they will also offer us an emotional story. I really think that this will be an amazing movie, great for all ages!

7 Batman Begins (2005)

On iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/batman-begins/id271469254

I could definitely say that if there’s a Batman film, anyone should watch, then this is it. It’s a very intelligent superhero movie, it’s well-made, and it has great visual effects and truly well-played characters. This prequel answers our long-standing questions about Bruce Wayne by showing us what his life was like before he became Batman. It’s definitely worth watching, even though you’re not so much of a comic book fan!

So, there you go, my favorite all time prequels to watch with your entire family! Do you know any more great movie prequels worth watching? Have you seen the movies I told you about? What did you enjoyed the most? Please, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section!
