When characters are especially memorable, they can instantly become iconic roles in the movies. I know each and every movie buff out there has a favorite character or two, or three, or more. Some of them are truly classic, while others are a matter of taste. I'm going to take a look at the most iconic roles in the movies, so make sure to let me know what you think!
1. Hannibal Lecter
I've probably made it pretty clear by now that, for me, Hannibal Lecter is the most iconic role in the movies, ever. I love this guy. Anthony Hopkins brought him to life in a way that was both eerie and beautiful, and I'm incredibly sad that Hannibal seems to be gone for good, in both literature and films. Come back!
2. Vito Corleone
Marlon Brando was one of the most amazing actors of his time, and Vito Corleone was one of his best characters. He brought the character to life from the novel, and made it into something iconic and legendary, almost from the first. Give him a chance, y'all, I bet he makes you an offer you can't refuse!
3. Eliza Doolittle
I love pretty much every movie Audrey Hepburn ever starred in, but My Fair Lady is just the cat's pajamas. Holly Golightly is certainly iconic for her class and style, but Eliza Doolittle, with that adorable cockney accent and street smudged face, makes the best Cinderella story. How can you resist her earnest efforts?
4. Indiana Jones
Indy's always there, isn't he? Harrison Ford's had a lot of iconic roles, and while I might get in trouble for not including Han Solo or anyone else from Star Wars I have to defend myself: I've never seen them all! So I'd be fibbing, and that wouldn't be cool. Plus I have a crush on Hayden Christensen, so I would be biased. Besides, who doesn't love some Indiana Jones? That theme song, man!
5. Tyler Durden
The first rule of Tyler Durden is you do not talk about how motherloving cool Tyler Durden is. Tyler probably comes second to Hannibal, if the truth be told. He instantly became an iconic role in the movies, and it's no wonder. All of us need a little Tyler Durden in us, I think as long as you keep him from blowing things up.
6. Norman Bates
Norman Bates was the original creepster and here, I'm talking about the real Norman Bates. Forget all the remakes, forget all the sequels, too, after the second one. The OG Norman Bates was the stuff. This guy still scares me half to death, and yet, there's something so sympathetic about him which makes him even creepier.
7. Forrest Gump
I love Forrest Gump so much. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors of all time, and I love most, if not all, of his roles, but this is without question at the top of my list. This is one of the few cases where I prefer the movie to the book(s). Forrest is so much more likeable played by Tom Hanks and this guy really can put things into perspective.
Magenta just is not highlighted enough in most RHPS clips, which blows my mind, because in my opinion, she's definitely one of the most iconic roles in the movies in any movie, ever. I love pretty much all the RHPS characters (and I'm sorry, but Meat Loaf's a little hot in it), but she's my favorite. No idea why. Something about that face, man.
9. Baby Jane
I've talked about my love for sadistic Baby Jane before, but it bears repeating. Bette Davis knew how to do madness. She knew how to do sadism, as well, which really makes me want to read an a biography or two. It's hard to love Baby Jane, but somehow, I can't help it.
There are many more iconic roles in the movies, but these are the ones who really stood out to me. Even if you haven't seen the movies featuring these roles, you almost automatically know who the characters are. That's recognition! Who are your most unforgettable movie characters?
