The best documentaries can be pretty amazing movies, but this is an often neglected genre in the film world. It doesnu00b4t receive the same attention from either audiences or critics. However, there are some must-see documentaries, which draw attention to important issues. Here are the best documentaries that you should watch
1. Fahrenheit 9/11
A lot of people donu00b4t like Michael Moore, but there is no doubt that he is a dedicated maker of documentaries. This work should be included among the must-see documentaries, as we need people who ask questions and arenu00b4t afraid to tackle controversial subjects.
2. Man on Wire
Most of us couldnu00b4t begin to contemplate a feat like the one achieved by Philippe Petit, a tightrope walker who crossed the space between the Twin Towers. That takes some courage! Itu00b4s probably best not to watch this if you suffer from vertigo though
3. Touching the Void
Iu00b4m not a fan of documentaries, and I didnu00b4t think Iu00b4d enjoy this. But to my surprise, I was totally gripped from start to finish. It tells the story of two mountaineers, one of whom had to take the decision to cut himself loose and abandon his trapped friend
4. Triumph of the Will
This is regarded as one of the best documentaries ever made, in spite of its purpose as a propaganda piece for the emerging Nazi regime. It has been later assessed in terms of its technical brilliance, without ignoring the fact that its intentions were to show the power of the Nuremberg Rallies. The film is also interesting if we look at it in its historical context.
5. Buena Vista Social Club
This documentary shows how musician Ry Cooder reunited some of Cubau00b4s best musicians, and brought them together to make the album of the same name. Watch this to hear the fabulous music, and see how the project came together.
Some of the best documentaries are about nature, as they teach us that we still have so much to learn about our own planet. If youu00b4ve not been lucky enough to see the superb series Planet Earth, then try this documentary, which is a feature-length version of the TV series.
7. Super-Size Me
What would happen to your health if you only ate fast food for a month? This is what filmmaker Morgan Spurlock set out to discover, and the results were, unsurprisingly, not positive. Youu00b4ll probably go right off burgers after watching this documentary!
8. Heart of Darkness: a Filmmakeru00b4s Apocalypse
There are documentaries on every possible subject after all, real life has no shortage of interesting topics and this one is about the making of a classic film. Basically, everything that could go wrong, did. So if youu00b4ve see the original film, this could make an interesting companion piece.
These are just some of the many documentaries made obviously itu00b4s a matter of opinion as to whether they are the best documentaries. Itu00b4s worth exploring this interesting genre though, as you can learn so many new things. What do you consider are the must-see documentaries?
