Although animated movies are really made for kids, there are so many great flicks that make for entertaining animated movies for adults! I don't have any kids, but I always end up seeing many of the animated films that, to me, are the perfect combination of comedy and drama that everyone can enjoy! Check out some of the many animated movies for adults and get ready to see animated films differently!
Any of the films featuring the grumpy yet lovable ogre Shrek make for great animated movies for adults! Whether he's engaging in witty banter with Donkey or playing the role of husband and father, you can't help but smile and laugh. Although Shrek and Fiona make a pretty cute couple, he and Donkey are totally irresistible together!
2. Puss in Boots
Puss In Boots is another seriously smart animated film that kids of all ages can enjoy. Puss was originally in the Shrek films and later starred in his own movie. Puss In Boots tells the story of fugitive cat Puss as his childhood friend Humpty Dumpty seeks out magical beans. Part drama, part love story with lots of fun and mayhem!
3. Toy Story
For many, Toy Story was the original film that got them into watching an animated movie. Toy Story was also the original feature-length computer animated movie, so it really paved the way for other computer animated films. Did you ever think that your toys had a life of their own when you weren't around? This is a fab film for anyone who had a special attachment to their toys and believed they were alive!
4. Monster, Inc
Another one of the fun kid movies for adults is Monster, Inc! When you were younger, did you believe that there were monsters hiding in your bedroom? Well, the city of Monstropolis is full of monsters who are hired to scare children! But the film shows that monsters aren't all that bad, as top scarer Sulley forges a friendship with a young girl and the monsters reform.
5. Despicable Me
Who doesn't love minions and super villains?! Despicable Me follows the story of super villain Gru, who feels threatened after an unknown villain steals the Great Pyramid. Gru plots to shrink and steal the moon with the help of his oh so adorable minions. As part of his diabolical plan, Gru ends up adopting some kids and proves that super villains can also make great dads!
This animated movie is tons of fun whether you like cars or not! This kid movie for adults follows Lightning McQueen and the many characters in Radiator Spring as they get involved in a race. Although a lot of fun and chaos ensue, this movie really highlights friendship, respect, good sportsmanship and staying true to yourself!
If you're looking for an animated movie to help you get in a better mood, Up is the way to go! Up tells the story of a young Wilderness Explorer, Russell, and lifelong dreamer and explorer Carl as they unintentionally travel together to Paradise Falls. This is another sweet story about adventure, friendship loyalty and love.
Ratatouille is my personal favorite among the animated movies on this list! This movie is about a gifted rat who dreams of becoming a chef. Remy befriends a newly hired garbage boy named Alfredo and discovers he can control his movements by pulling his hair. Remy helps Alfredo become a chef and later starts his own bistro with Alfredo and his love interest Colette.
9. The Incredibles
Another popular kid movie for adults is The Incredibles! The story takes place in Municiberg, where there are supers, or humans with superpowers, who fight crime and keep the streets safe. This movie is a fun comedy with plenty of action and family fun. If you ever dreamt of having superpowers as a child, or even as an adult, this is a must-see!
The last animated movie for adults is a sophisticated romantic comedy that can be enjoyed and appreciated by kids of all ages. Although there is very little dialogue throughout the majority of the movie, the emotion in the film is very palpable and a great choice for sci-lovers, rom-com lovers and everyone in between!
